Blues, folk and skiffle spirit meet lived experience and thoughtful storytelling in Mickey Wynne’s music, released as The World of Mick.
A blues feel with a modern production
Mickey calls his style “Blues-pop”. “In making my music, I blend a blues feel with a modern pop production,” he told Crucial Rhythm in 2023. “I write songs that reflect my world, my own journey.”
The name of the project says the same thing. He describes The World of Mick as “a musical view into my world”.
Where the influences come from
Mickey has named John Mayer, John Lennon, John Lydon and Joni Mitchell as influences, with Jimi Hendrix, J. S. Bach, Captain Beefheart and Peter Green among his inspirations. That is a wide range of music to absorb, and it helps explain why his Bandcamp releases are tagged across folk, Americana, blues and folk rock.
Songs built on stories
MICK II – Universal Traveller explores isolation, wishful thinking and longing. On “Gravity”, one character wishes to be free and to feel beautiful feelings all the time, while another stays grounded. As Mickey suggests, “Maybe it’s another side of the first character.”
