From the session scene to stories of his own

Mickey Wynne standing in front of a dramatic castle landscape

“I came up through the studio session world in London as the guitar player known as Mickey Wynne,” Mickey told Crucial Rhythm in 2023. His solo albums came much later, after a career spent playing, writing and teaching for and with other people.

Sessions and writing rooms

After moving to London, Mickey taught guitar while building a name on the session circuit. A development deal with MCA Records took him to New York as a writer. Back in London, he spent six months at Abbey Road Studios on the Wiseguys album project.

Four continents

His work has also taken him to Karachi, where he wrote the play Ad Man’s Dream for Pakistan TV with film directors Salman and Usman Peerzada, and to Mexico, Singapore, Sydney, Hamburg and Nashville. His Nashville work included the Pioneers, a side project for The Who’s John Entwistle.

Brighton, teaching and production

In Brighton, Mickey formed the production company Harmonia with actor and musician Patrick Bergin. He also lectured part-time at BIMM, in songwriting, guitar session styles and music theory, and still offers guitar lessons.

Stories of his own

Those experiences now feed his own records, starting with the debut solo album MICK I. He describes the name he records under, The World of Mick, as “a musical view into my world”.
